Inkscape Tutorial Number 3
Tutorial Number 3:
Layering Text with different outlines to create eye catching Designs. I will use my logo as an example.
Step1:
Firstly I used the Text Tool and typed in the Title. I chose the KidTYPEPaint Type Face.
Step 2:
I then chose Path > Object to Path to convert the text to an Illustration Object.
Step 3:
I then chose Path > Break Apart to separate the Illustration to its separate elements.
Level: Easy: You must learn the Inkscape basics first
Step 4:
Firstly I used the Select Tool to select the first letter. I then chose the Bezier Tool and edited the nodes.
Step 5:
After manually editing the nodes I selected all the converted text then I then chose Path > Combine to combine all the converted text elements to one Illustration.
Step 6:
With object selected I used a click on the right mouse button to bring up the options menu and chose the 'Duplicate command'. This places a duplicate on top of the original. I did this three times and dragged the copies apart as the Image below. After selecting and creating a Gradient Fill I then chose different outlines for each Object.
Top Layer has an outline (stroke) of 0
Second Layer has a Black stroke of 1.85px
Third Layer has a Gray stroke of 4.61px
Fourth Layer has a Black Fill and a Black stroke of 3.61px with a Blur of 4
Step 7:
With the Select Tool select the top 3 layers and choose Object > Align and Distribute to bring up the menu
With the 3 top Layers selected press the options as on the left.
You now have the top three layers together. Choose Object > Group to group them together.
Step 8:
Now drag the grouped layers into position over the bottom shadow layer as below.
And there you see the finished result. I use quite a lot of Text layers with varying routines in my artwork I think it gives the artwork a real lift.
