Tutorial Number 4.
Tutorial Number 4:
Creating a 'Vignette' around an Image using a Clipping Mask.
Level: Easy: You must learn the Inkscape basics first
Step1:
Firstly I imported a Bitmap Photo Image.
Step2:
Then I created an Oval over the top and inside the Photo Image Using The Circle Ellipse Tool
Step3:
I then gave the Oval or Ellipse a Stroke (outline) of 10px and a Blur of 6.2.
Step4:
Use The Select Tool to select both Objects and then Choose Object > Mask > Set

Note: This is different than Clip > Set as we have done in previous exercises
The final Result A Vignette Image. It's a good Idea to Choose Edit > Make a Bitmap Copy. You can then delete the Clipping Mask. Leaving the artwork with a clipping mask does not always save properly in different file formats. Making a Bitmap copy solves this issue.
I added a Color square and sent it to the background. Layer >Layer to the bottom This shows that the Bitmap copy has a Transparent Vignette.
